Phil Hall - Senior Vice President, Business Development
Phil Hall heads a team responsible for Appen's revenue and future business growth, with a strong focus on solutions selling and the negotiation of often complex work programs with major international clients. Phil's team is responsible for sales of Appen's licensable materials and for ongoing expansion of Appen's catalogue of licensed speech and text offerings.
Phil previously worked in several areas of speech technology for Appen clients, including transcription, project management, phonemic dictionary development, and application grammars. He also led a number of complex international projects spanning multiple languages and organisations.
He is a member of the International Association of Forensic Linguists (IAFL), has been a panellist on the AILA Scientific Commission on Forensic Linguistics, and lectured on grammar, semantics, database linguistics and forensic linguistics. Phil has a number of publications in the area of Forensic Linguistics, and has acted as a consultant forensic linguist for the New South Wales Police in a number of extortion and stalking cases.
In 1998, Phil was awarded Bachelor of Arts with Honours and the University Medal from Macquarie University for his research into the language of police interrogation.
